Why is a 3A molecular sieve preferred over 4A for ethanol dehydration?
A 4A molecular sieve has a pore diameter of approximately 4 Å, which is large enough to co-adsorb both water (~2.65 Å) and ethanol (~4.3 Å, but with a kinetic diameter of ~4.0 Å, it can still enter the pores under thermal pressure). This co-adsorption causes ethanol cracking, pore blockage, and reduced efficiency. The 3A molecular sieve selectively allows only water to enter, completely excluding the ethanol molecule and ensuring stable operation.
What are the recommended regeneration temperatures for 3A Zeolites?
For thermal regeneration (TSA), the process gas temperature should ideally range between 200°C and 320°C. Raising the temperature above 350°C for long periods can cause structural damage and lose capacity, while temperatures below 180°C may not fully release adsorbed water molecules, lowering performance.
How does crush strength affect the lifetime of a molecular sieve bed?
