The Separation Mechanism: Unlike typical granular activated carbons that adsorb contaminants via broad pore structures, Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS) are engineered with highly specialized, uniform micro-pores. These pores measure in the range of angstroms (approx. 3 to 5 Å). Oxygen molecules, having a smaller kinetic diameter than nitrogen molecules, diffuse into the internal pore structure of the CMS at a much faster rate, allowing high-purity nitrogen to flow out as the product gas stream.
